I really hope you're just being sarcastic...

It's true master Baggins that people will still go and see the Hobbit evem if it turnes out to be a bad movie and that New Line will earn something, but I don't expect them to be happy with just "something". They will probably want to earn a fortune here so the fans will have to do their best to spoil that . I most certainly will not watch the movie in cinemas if it's without Jackson and McKellen, I'll just download it from the internet or maybe burn the dvd once it's out. It's not much, but if thousands of fans do the same...

Well I was just reading an oldish interview that PJ had given, a few months back. The link is already on the page before of this forum, but here it is again:
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,1538494_2,00.html

There were some really, really interesting things that PJ said.

When asked whether the NL lawsuit would affect him in terms of making the Hobbit or just working with NL in general...
No no no, I'd love to make another film for New Line. And certainly The Hobbit isn't involved in the lawsuit. Bilbo Baggins doesn't work for the accounting department of New Line, and I certainly don't hold him to blame for any of our disputes.

On Whether he thinks NL or MGM will call him to discuss the Hobbit...
don't know. I'm not that concerned about it, because if they couldn't wait for us and somebody else was going to make The Hobbit, I'd still queue up and see it. Obviously, once a studio decides to make a movie, they're not necessarily going to wait around for a particular director to become free. So I guess I'm either going to get involved making it or I get to go and enjoy the film when it's released. We'll see.

So PJ will see the movie no matter what. I don't know about the boycott. Maybe the movie will be good... even if it gets one star in the paper, I would still go see it, however. Gosh I'm surious. I'm sure PJ would be curious as to what they've done with it, and so am I. But in that above interview, PJ was talking about how he still has sets from LotR that he would use on the Hobbit, and it made me sad to think that if any other director does the Hobbit, then even the SETS aren't going to be the same, let alone the cast and everything else. I mean, how cool would it be to sit in the cinema and see before you the SAME Hobbiton, the SAME Bag-End, the SAME Rivendell that you saw however many years ago when LotR came out?

TheOneRing.Net Greg Wright is the author of Tolkien in Perspective: Sifting the Gold from the Glitter. He's adding his thoughts to the situation.

It appears we've won ourselves another PJ supporter:
And these are two films that Jackson should be the one to make, and ones that I would look forward to seeing.

I sincerely hope PJ directs The Hobbit, but either way I'll still go see it. I just hope it doesn't turn out like Eragon. That would be a disaster.

As far as I know, nothing has been decided yet. The most probable candidate at the moment seems to be Sam Raimi, who directed the Spiderman movies.

Like Morwinyoniel said, it has not been decided yet. I wouldn't lose hope yet, though. This whole thing is far from over, and a lot can happen.

I don't think anyone's really sure yet. So at the moment New Line has the rights to make the film until the end of the year but they aren't letting Peter Jackson film it nor do they have any other director attached to the project yet but I think that MGM get the rights to it after the end of the year (??) and they want PJ to film it.

...did that make any sense? =P

From what I understand, btw. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong!!! And I hope I just replied to the right post =S

If they get the Spidey guy to direct The Hobbit, it will be a total disaster.

I take that back (I just saw Spidey 2 ).

Still...

who here has sent either a litter, or post card via 'make the hobbit happen!'

the link is on the right hand site of the home page at COE. I really think that if we take action, at least we tried.

So, Sam Raimi is seriously interested in making The Hobbit.
Great.

If "The Hobbit" is going to be created on film, then I seriously think no other than Peter Jackson should take on the mantle of Director!

He has done an outstanding job with the LOTR, and it goes without saying that he will do the same - if not a better - job with The Hobbit. Though right now I see very few chances of that happening - since Jackson and New Line are about to battle issues in court over money owed. It's sad to know that we do live in a materialistic world where everything boils down to - well, metaphorically speaking - a Ring.

I think P Jackson should direct it surely ... but I was thinking how cool it would be if the some stories from the Silmarillion made it to the big screen as well. I think The Silmarillion really has a vast scope of tragedy, drama and intrigue to make another spectacular movie - or even a trilogy!

I hope they use some of the music from the animated one. I loved that music. I still have the tunes stuck on my head, and I watched the film over 2 years ago!

Hey, please keep this thread just for discussion about the Hobbit movie. For Silmarillion movie discussion there's a thread "Movie of Silmarillion?", which I bumped, and moved the latest two posts to.

But what if Jackson and New Line don't come to terms of agreement? What then? Sam Raimi is fixed to direct in that eventuality? Any news on any development?

I believe that even if most of us are saying that they won't watch 'The Hobbit' if it isn't directed by Peter Jackson, people would still go and see it out of curiosity and comparing it with LoTR, whoever directs it in his stead - therefore, increasing the money in the box office business ...

Still, I'm all out for PJ to direct the film!

Thanks,
Ilandir

I talked to my producer friend, he don't know anymore than we do. He did say Peter Jackson has no interest in doing it.
